4 Reasons to Replace Your Lower Kitchen Cabinets with Multiple Drawers

It used to be that the space under a kitchen countertop would perhaps contain a single drawer and then be taken up by larger cabinets. However, more and more homeowners are discovering the advantages that come with using larger drawers all the way down in place of the traditional cabinet.

Here are just four reasons why you should strongly consider following their lead.

1. Easier to Access

Maybe the young and spry don't need to worry about bending over to find things, but anyone reaching into middle age will notice that having to get on their hands and knees to look into the back of a cupboard is starting to become pretty darn irritating, and it can be downright painful if you suffer from back issues or are in your golden years. Even after you find what you want, you normally have to move a bunch of other heavy items out of the way in order to get to it. With drawers, you don't need to bend down as far and you won't need to move as many other objects out of the way to get what you're after.

2. Easier to Organise

Kitchens commonly need to store more items that any other room in the house. From cookbooks to cookware and from forks to fish knives, there's plenty that needs to be accommodated, and many items, such as pots, pans and baking trays, are on the larger side. It's just much easier to keep everything organised when you use drawers. They more effectively divide up the space on offer, using all of the vertical height beneath the benchtop instead of simply providing a single shelf on which to place things.

3. Easier to Clean

Since drawers are easier to access and organise than cabinets, it should come as no surprise to learn that they are also a lot easier to clean. Pulling out each drawer and removing everything inside will be easier and faster, and cleaning will also be easier since the whole open drawer will be exposed to the light in your kitchen. Additionally, you won't have to reach into hard-to-get-to spots while crouching on your hands and knees, which would be the case when trying to clean the rearmost parts of a cabinet.

4. Easier to See

Finally, drawers make it easier to see what you're looking for. Cabinets only get light from the one door at the front, so anything kept towards the back is going to be in the shadows. When you open up a drawer, light reaches every item kept inside.

If you're planning a kitchen renovation, consider updating your cabinets to include more drawers.
